Braced Star

The goal when I started blogging was to post sixty 6 1/2" blocks.  We are slowly approaching that goal.  This does not mean that I will stop.  It does mean that it is time for new ideas.  I have a few in mind so we will see what will happen.
As for the 6 1/2" blocks, I have been piecing them but I have just over half of them made.  I hope to have it finished this year, not in 20 years.  haha  We will continue to tape the blocks for youtube.  That helps me in getting the blocks sewn.  Thank goodness.
Today's block is Braced Star.  Sew the center first, then the star points.  Sew the block together at an angle.

Birds in the Air

What a great way to start the new year with soup night with the grandchildren.  For Christmas, some of the grandchildren gave me some soup mixes that they liked.  So tonight, I fix one and had bread and crackers to go with it.  Cookies for dessert to finish it off.
For today's block-- Birds in the Air.  This one is a nice change of pace, made with five large triangles.

Quilting

Our quilters are busy, busy, busy like Santa's elves getting everything ready for Christmas.  Today was their day off so Christopher and I stepped in.  We spent the day long arm quilting to make sure that everyone's quilt is finished on time.  It is always fun to see what others have made.  The variety that our customers create is great.  We are not to the bottom of the list but just a little closer.
  Today's block is Windblown Square.

Post Thanksgiving

It is after Thanksgiving and I need to get back into a routine.  I have been very busy this week finishing other people's projects for Christmas.  This has caused me to neglect the things that I want to get done such as blogging and my own Christmas.  It is time to get organized.
To the more important thing--another block.  To ease back into it, the block is Contrary Wife, a simple block with squares and HST.

New Block

For those of us that know the cold is coming, enjoyed the nice weekend.  It was ideal weather to watch the grandsons play football.  One won his game, the other lost his.  From a grandmother's point of view, they were both the MVP.
Today I was busy trying to get some quilting finished.  My day will be done as soon as you get your next block.
Stellie is the block.  I hope you like it.

Cutting

Light fabric
one  3 1/4" sq.  cut diagonally twice for the hour glass
four  2 1/2" sq. for the corners
Medium fabric
two  3 1/4" sq. cut diagonally twice for the hour glass
one  2 1/2" sq. for the center
Dark fabric
one  3 1/4" sq cut diagonally twice for the hour glass
If you do not want to cut the hour glass pieces first then sew, you can sew first then cut & mix them & sew again.  Your choice.

Graduation!

Our May is going so fast.  Graduations, end of school, dance recitals, softball, track and soccer are all going on at the same time.  It is all so exciting.  We love seeing the kids doing their thing.
(Yes, that is a coat under her uniform.  It was 48 degrees.)

A very popular attraction in our area is Bear Country.  We were able to go last week and see all sorts of animals, but the bears are our favorites.  Once you drive through the park and see the adults, you can park and walk in a separate area to see the babies.  I highly recommend it if you're ever in the area.  This guy was just hanging out. leaning on his favorite rock.

Now that school is ending, we are planning some fun projects during the summer.  This weekend, if you visit the store, we will be having a Memorial Day Weekend Fabric Sale.  May 25-27th, we will be offering a free yard of fabric when you buy 4 yards.  Or 3 yards of free fabric if you buy 8 yards.

In June, we will be hosting the Fabric Junction Juniors Sewing Camp.  From June 12-15, we will be working with kids 8 and over to create multiple projects during the week.  Beginner's classes are 9:00-12:00.  Intermediate classes are 1:00-4:00.  Project kits, machines, snacks and drinks will be provided.  We would love to have your kiddo learn to sew at our shop this summer!  Call to reserve their spot.  605-347-2235.

Later this summer, we will be hosting a Sewing Retreat for adults.  We can't wait to give you more details as they become available.

Have we mentioned that we do quilting?  One of our customers recently brought in a T-shirt topper for us to quilt.  Her granddaughter is a softball player and the quilt used many of her uniforms and t-shirts in it.  Lynette used our quilting software to create a softball stitch that is fantastic.  Take a look:

We love the creativity that our customers have and we love finishing their projects.  If you ever need someone to quilt for you, please call or go to our website to fill out the order form.  We ship anywhere!

Have a great week!

Tutorials, Panels and Baby Locks

Yesterday I signed my children up for volleyball and softball.  The softball clinic is on April 1.  And to those who are familiar with South Dakota, you know there's a good chance that April 1 will still bring snow or cold weather.  My only consolation is that it will be her, not me, who will be out in that for four hours.  Is that bad?  I love that our kids have lots of options to keep them busy during the winter and spring months.  Art classes, sewing classes, gymnastics, piano lessons, dance lessons, basketball are all offered in the area for our children.  If our kids are bored, it's their own fault.

Well, Terry isn't bored.  Since she has been back, she's been busy making tutorials for our YouTube channel.  In the last two weeks, we have published How To Use A 24" Panel in Your Quilt, and a Fabric Folding Pen Tutorial.  As always, Terry clearly explains her work in detail, making it easy for you to follow.

Since we showed you how to use your 24" panel, and we have another tutorial posted on how to use your yard panel, we decided to put a panel on sale for you.  You know, to help you get started.
Northcott Ahoy Matie Panel

This cute little panel is on sale for $6.25 this week.  We think it will make such a cute quilt for the little pirate in your life!  Click here  to take you to our website.

Speaking of sales, our Baby Locks are still 50% off!  Please call or come in to grab your next favorite machine.  You only have FIVE more days left to get one at this terrific price.  The sale ends February 28.

Our Shop Hop is coming soon.  Terry has been creating our block for this event, and it is lovely.  We can't wait to show it to you!

Shameless Cute Baby Post

Hope everyone is using their quilts this week!  After a beautiful weekend, we have had ice and snow again for the past two days.  How about you?  What is the weather like where you live?

Terry made it to Phoenix this week for the Quilt, Craft and Sewing Festival.  She is setting up her booth today.  Check our Facebook page for pictures over the next few days.

When it snows, we don't have as many customers that come through the doors.  That's okay because they can always order online.  But we do love it when we get to see a few of these cuties!

What projects are you working on?  We are gearing up for a new YouTube tutorial.  We can't tell you what it is yet, but we will show it to you soon.

Do any of you use embroidery software?  We use it here in the store and love all the templates it provides.  There are some darling patterns for all uses.  We have some Anita Goodesign software that is currently 50% off.  This brand includes monkey and nautical themes, candle wraps, book clutches and more.  I love the delicate stitches of the utensil holders software.  Take a look here for all the options.

I can't believe we're nearing the end of January!  I'm not sad.  It just went fast.  February 2nd is Groundhog Day.

I think it's fun that we all gather around a rodent to find out weather related news.  I'm hoping he's wearing a little scarf when he pops his head out.  Probably won't happen.  But to acknowledge the fuzzy guy, we will be having our own little celebration in the store and online.  It will be a great sale with a deeply discounted price point.  We're keeping it close to the vest for now.  We hope you'll check back with us next week to find out what it is.

Thanks for following along with us this week.  We look forward to seeing any current projects you're working on.  Just post them in the Comments section.  Have a great weekend!
